Kareem Iliya

Kareem Iliya is the contemporary artist that I have chosen for the history of illustration project.

Iliya's illustrations have appeared in numerous publications across the world, including;

Harpers Bazaar, The New York Times and Vogue.

He has also created advertising campaigns for many global brands, such as, Perrier-Jouet, Tiffany & Co, Saks Fifth Ave, Bloomingdales and Bergdoff Goodman.

Iliya illustrations have been used for the book covers of: The Great Gatsby, Tender is the night, Handbags: a lexicon of style, Fashion images de mode vol, 2 & 6, and many others.

Iliya illustrates mainly with the mediums of watercolour and ink. His work has been described as ethereal and haunting.
The simple nature of his work is what is most endearing, the simplicity that somehow depicts great depth.
At first glance they appear to lack detail, but the more you focus it can become hard to distinguish whether the work is painted or a photograph.
